On December 9-10, 2025, Aras Newborn Care Ethiopia conducted a two-day newborn resuscitation training for 59 midwives at the University of Gondar (UOG) Comprehensive Specialized Hospital. Conducted by Aras’ Founder and Executive Director, Dr. Miheret Yitayew and Dr. Kullehe Haddis, an Ethiopian Neonatologist, the training utilized Laerdal neonatal simulation manikins with real-time feedback technology (NeoNatalie Live). The hands-on program emphasized evidence-based resuscitation practices, with realistic, high-fidelity scenarios, allowing participants to practice critical skills and receive objective, real-time feedback while refining team-based responses to high-risk deliveries and newborn emergencies.
This training underscores the Aras Newborn Care Ethiopia–UOG partnership to improve neonatal outcomes through high quality education and capacity building. By integrating Laerdal manikin technology with expert-led instruction, the training enhanced midwives’ confidence and competence in newborn resuscitation, supporting UOG’s efforts to reduce newborn morbidity and mortality.
Aras Newborn Care Ethiopia is committed to build on the successful training by expanding educational opportunities for midwives and residents. It aims to extend the capacity-building training by utilizing virtual technology to reach catchment hospitals and clinics by strengthening newborn resuscitation skills and delivery services across the maternal and neonatal care continuum.
